If you have kikuyu invading your couch lawn, winter grass (Poa annua) taking over in the cooler months, nutgrass spreading through your turf, or a mix of grassy and broadleaf weeds that nothing seems to touch. Monument is the product turf professionals and serious lawn enthusiasts reach for first.
Monument Liquid is a professional-grade selective herbicide by Syngenta that controls an exceptionally broad spectrum of weeds in couch lawns without damaging your turf when used correctly. Fully systemic, it's absorbed through the root, shoot and leaf meaning it kills weeds from the inside out, not just on the surface.
Not suitable for buffalo, kikuyu or zoysia lawns. Monument is designed for use on couch and hybrid couch turf only. Using on other turf types may cause damage.
What Monument Controls
Kikuyu - suppresses and weakens kikuyu runners invading couch, with repeated applications delivering progressively stronger control and eventual kill down to the roots
Winter grass (Poa annua) - one of the most effective post-emergent winter grass killers available for couch lawns
Ryegrass -ideal for removing oversown ryegrass in spring as couch comes out of dormancy
Nutgrass & sedges -broad-spectrum sedge control including nutgrass (Cyperus rotundus), one of the most difficult weeds to eliminate
Broadleaf weeds -controls a wide range of common broadleaf weeds in a single application
Key Features
- Broad-spectrum selective weed control - grasses, sedges and broadleaf weeds in one product
- Fully systemic action - absorbed through roots, shoots and leaves for complete kill, not just surface burn
- Extremely concentrated - 100ml covers 3,300-8,695m² (at 1.15-3ml per 100m²)

Seasonal Application Guide
Autumn (March - May) - Winter Grass Prevention
Apply Monument as a post-emergent treatment at first sight of winter grass seedlings germinating. For best long-term results, pair with Barricade pre-emergent herbicide applied before germination to create a two-stage defence.
Winter (June - August) - Active Winter Grass & Broadleaf Control
Post-emergent control of actively growing winter grass, broadleaf weeds and sedges. Apply to actively growing weeds for maximum uptake and results.
Spring (September - November) - Ryegrass Removal & Kikuyu Suppression
The ideal time to remove oversown ryegrass as your couch breaks dormancy and comes back to life. Also the prime window for kikuyu suppression. Monument weakens kikuyu runners while the couch remains unaffected, allowing the couch to outcompete and reclaim the area over multiple applications.
Is the $218.90 Price Worth It? The Cost-Per-Application Story
At first glance, Monument is a significant investment. But at a rate of just 1.15-3ml per 100m², a 100ml bottle covers between 3,300 and 8,695m². For a typical 200m² residential lawn, that's potentially 16-43 applications per bottle — making each treatment as low as $5-$13. For a product that solves one of the most persistent and frustrating problems in Australian lawn care, the cost per application is extremely competitive.
As one of our customers put it: "The cost is quite high; however, the results speak for themselves."
Monument + Barricade - The Complete Winter Grass Strategy
Monument is one half of the most effective winter grass control program available to Australian homeowners. For year-round protection:
- Barricade (pre-emergent) - applied in late summer/early autumn to prevent winter grass seeds from germinating
- Monument (post-emergent) - applied to control any winter grass that breaks through, and for all other grassy weeds, sedges and broadleaf weeds

I wish I had found Monument 25 years ago and then I wouldn’t have wasted all those hours and money trying to get rid of our winter grass. Monument, though expensive, is outstanding at killing winter grass with just one spray. I thought it was expensive but it’s actually value for money and a game changer in killing winter grass.
Conventional advice that I was reviewing regarding eradicating Kikuyu grass in my Couch Lawn said that there was no selective herbicide I could use, therefore had to physically dig it out – which I have been doing with limited success.
As I have continually looked for some time for an easier method, I was pleased when I came across Monument Herbicide supplied by Mighty Goat Lawns. As I remained uncertain, I phoned up and spoke directly to one of the team members who was able to answer all my questions regarding application etc.
I followed the manufacturers and supplier’s instructions with the results very positive. I have completed the 2nd application and expect to do a few more before eradicating the Kikuyu without damaging the Couch. The Kikuyu is yellowing nicely with the Couch remaining green and healthy.
The quantity of Herbicide used per application is very low so I will have plenty of product left over for future treatments. The cost is quite high; however, the results speak for themselves.
Hi,
I have quite a lot do I am doing it in small sections. The result so far is good but I have quit a lot still to do. Looking good though
Momument is a great product for killing kikuyu grass, the bottle says it only suppresses kikuyu but it has killed it down to its roots making it easier to pull ouy
Been 2 weeks since soraying kikuyu bit too early to tell but couch hasn't been affected
